It turns out I really can be bothered

Posted by BlakTornado - July 28th, 2008

Update:
Sorry for the false alarm! I was just feeling very irritable because of the unusually intense heat we're having over here in the UK at the moment. My Claymen being annoying was just the final straw to my anger and it all came rushing out before I thought about it. Sorry!
Good news is (if you think it's good news!); I'm still doing the movie! I'm determined. These challenges will make it even more worth it in the end.
To make it up for you for causing a scene, here's an unreleased shot that's so fresh, it's not even been exported from iStopmotion yet! [see picture at the bottom]

Honestly, I really cannot be bothered with Clayground anymore.

It's taken me 25 days to make PART of the first scene of my movie, and even that sucks. The lighting is crap, the animation is crap, the editing is crappy and it seems rushed. Seriously, I really can't be bothered with it and I'm so close to scrapping it.

And if I do, will I go back to making shorts? Probably not. It's annoying. The clay is so stupid and soft that even making a character walk across the table makes it wear out. It's tedious, and the clay gets all over everything. It takes up so much time. I'm sick of it. I wouldn't care if I was actually getting somewhere with any of it, but am I? No. I'm not. My shorts suck.

Honestly, I feel like giving up on it all. The only creative thing I truly enjoy anymore is making music, both myself and in my band, Delayed Finality. I don't have any ideas for live-actions films, and even if I did, they would be so ridiculously ambitious that I wouldn't be able to make them anyway.

Whether or not I stop making clay shorts or my Clayground movie is far from confirmed, but at the moment, that's really what I feel like doing.

It turns out I really can be bothered

If you dont enjoy something whether its your job, hobbies, or whatever then its not worth doing, you only live once dood, im tipsy btw and took 10 mins to rihgt this

Thanks for your reply, and you're right!

Hey, that happens.

Just relax, take a break and then try again once you have the motivation. I get like this often, except I haven't made a flash in like forever, lol.

Thanks :) That's what I'm going to do. thanks for replying!

I'd really hate to see all your hard work be called a "Knox rip-off". That must get old. Knox hasn't even submitted a movie in forever.

Yeah... it's a little annoying =[

Honestly, I haven't made a short that's similar to Knox's (in terms of story, dialogue, etc.) since last year, at least... and even then it was still quite different...

Why do it if you don't like doing it?
If it were me, it wouldn't matter if it's crappy, as long as I have fun doing it.

DO what I do.

Play around with clay like a little kid would.

It's fun.

hehe :P

Just have some time off of it, if making music is all you want to do at the moment then just do that, you may want to go back to it in the future. It's not like you're doing this for a job (It isn't right?), it's a hobby and it's supposed to be about having fun.

What clay are you using exactly?. The whole stupid clay conundrum might require a change of clay.

Newplast.... it's the best I can get in the UK :(

Maybe you should restart from scratch. it works sometimes. Its hard but the results are always better

Good idea!

Holy shit! Nice username.

And your username is shit! (literally speaking, of course)

:P hehe

your just working for us. and the front page :D. my god be with you. and yes i am wacthing south park:holy ep

dammit how could you tell? lol

you could always try making him into a puppet...eh?

I can't make puppets :(

Blak, if you love stopmotion, don't give up on it, no matter what. Yeah, it gets insanely frustrating. It's a bitch to work with, and sometimes you do wanna just give up. But if you do love stopmotion, and are just feeling frustrated, don't give up.

Every artist goes through a phase where they feel absolutely everything they do sucks. Being your own worst critic is actually a good thing, it's how you get better. I'd hate to see you stop making shorts, you're a good animator amongst a see of Knox wannabes. If you're really not into stopmotion anymore, then I'm not gonna tell you to keep pursuing it. But if you're just fed up and angry, just take a few month break and try again. I hope the best for you. Good luck!

Thanks, man :)

I thought Newsplast was OK :P
I used it for my music video "That thing upstairs is not my daughter". Though admittedly it does kinda go solid and bits of it break off at times, but still i reckon it's OK.

you should make a movie I mean thats ambitious and if you don't do anything ambitous you'll never get better so try something a little harder and you will feel you've made a bigger achievment. peace.

whats up?? had you ever seen my clay dudes its my front page!!!
